When you think of "Home" what do you think about? To some it maybe making cookies at Christmas time. Other's it may be playing baseball at a local park that they use to play at growing up. To me, I always loved unique identifiers. I road bus 44 going to elementary school and lived on County Road 44 growing up. In growing up I have come to love all kinds of other unique identifiers, such as state highways, phone numbers, and license plates. Weird, but it is just how my brain tends to want to think. When I think of home Route 94 comes to mind. Growing up the closest state route was State Route 94 and today I live just 5 minutes away from Interstate 94. So, when it comes to thinking about home, either where I grew up or where I currently live, there is a Route 94 always guiding my way back home.
So, that is the reason for the name of this blog. First, I was amazed that route94.org was available (.net was taken or would have chosen that). Second, I've been asking the Lord what can I do to glorify his name through technology. I've done a few faith blogs in the past under the grangergardens.net banner, but that was a little weird since that was our former family business. I also debated to use my last name for the domain, but doing something like route94.org just seemed right. It expresses who I am and gives me a vehicle to glorify God through the use of technology. I will use this blog to post some devotional thoughts from time to time in hopes readers can be encouraged and challenged to go deeper in their faith walk.
Going on my opening question, "When you think of 'Home' what do you think about?", how often do we think about our heavenly home? With the noise that our world has been consumed in today it is no wonder if just confine our thoughts of our heavenly home to Sunday mornings or with our random cup of coffee (blah... I hate coffee) with our friends. In truth there are so many things that should help us remember our heavenly home:
1. Nature- Nature screams God's creation. What came first: the pollinator or the plant? How is it that we have consciousness? Why is it that so many things like proteins and cells work together to make a large organism? This all truly screams design and the God who created it all (Romans 1:19-20). This should be a snapshot of what eternity will be like as we go to worship Him!
2. God's Family- Never before have I been part of a church that has emphasized fellowship more than the one I'm in now. There is something about fellowshipping with one another that is like no other. Paul talks is I Cor 12:14-26 about the different parts of the body and how they all work together and the similarity to the body of Christ, and this is reflected when we engage in fellowship. We encourage each other, rebuke each other, build each other up, disciple each other, listen to each other...and so on. The image of worshipping with all the saved one day for all eternity may not compare with what we have now, but what we have now is awesome!
3. God's Word- The Bible is full of God's revealed will for us. It is such a wonderful privilege to be able to read this book and to study it. The Old Testament points to Christ, and the New Testament look both back at Christ and a future of everlasting basking in the presence of our savior. Truly this good news we shouldn't keep to ourselves, but should be shouting it to the rooftops so that many will be saved and come to know salvation.
...anyways I could go on and on, but kind of want to keep these short. There are so many things that help us point to us to our heavenly home. Our life, the route that we may be on, is only for a time and does have a final destination. For those who have given their life to Christ, trust in his salvation, the final destination is one of everlasting joy and victory. And the best part is this is open to anyone who is willing to deny himself accept the grace that Christ offers. And to be clear: good people don't go to heaven. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that no one is good. The only person ever that ever was good died 2000+ years ago on a cross and rose from the dead for the rest of humanity for reconciliation with God our Father. It is only by grace through faith in which one is saved. I definitely encourage anyone reading this that if you have never came to understand what this means to message me and we can have a talk or visit a good Bible/evangelical believing church and speak with one of the elders. This invitation is open to anyone and look forward to be on this journey with you... as we travel down Route 94 on the journey home.
